New Belarusians

The shady business and lavish life of Sheiman's entourage

Authors

Viktar Sheiman has built an entire business empire based on smuggling and shady schemes. But the aide and long-time associate of Aleksandr Lukashenko doesn’t own anything directly.

The names of Sheiman’s trusted managers, namely brothers Yauheni and Yury Zhouners, Aliaksandr Ramanouski and Anton Novik, and Siarhei and Tatsiana Anoshkas, have been identified in our investigations and those of our fellow journalists.

But such stories have always lacked ostensiveness. Today we will lift the veil of mystery and provide further insight into the Anoshka couple, Siarhei and Tatsiana. Since the 2010s, they have been working in “Sheiman’s stable” and are actively involved in Lukashenko’s “family” plans. And that’s why they can afford to live a truly luxurious life in Belarus and beyond: expensive jewellery and couture clothes, holidays for hundreds of thousands of dollars, or exclusive events such as the New Year’s Eve private concert by Kylie Minogue. And this is by no means a complete list.

We are grateful to CyberPartisans for their help in the preparation of this piece

ALL INCLUSIVE

Dubai is hot and insanely expensive. The rich and famous come here to entertain and indulge in luxury. The iconic Atlantis, The Palm Hotel, a symbol of Dubai, stands proudly on the island of Palm Jumeirah. The hotel’s construction cost 1.5 billion dollars.

The Guinness Book of World Records’ Aquaventure, the world’s largest water park, and The Lost Chambers, an oceanarium with more than 65,000 underwater marine animals, are the resort’s flagship attractions. The hotel boasts 15 restaurants, two of which have been awarded Michelin stars. Among the guests spotted at Atlantis, The Palm were American actress Kim Kardashian, singer Jennifer Lopez... and Belarusian businesswoman Tatsiana Anoshka.

On the eve of 2023, she boasted on her Instagram page that she would be ringing in the New Year to the accompaniment of world superstar Australian singer Kylie Minogue. The night culminated in a ten-minute burst of fireworks.

Indeed, on New Year’s Eve in 2022, the pop singer headlined a gala dinner at Atlantis, The Palm. The party began with canapés and champagne, followed by a sumptuous buffet of dishes ranging from lobster and caviar to crustaceans and handmade desserts.Guests were served not only seafood delicacies, but also exquisite French champagne Dom Pérignon – we also found a photo featuring the drink on Tatsiana Anoshka’s Instagram.

A bottle of Dom Pérignon Luminous with a luminescent label costs between €250 and €9,200. The alcohol is probably a compliment from the establishment and its cost is already included in the deposit one had to pay to join this great hangout. The most affordable seating option for adults on offer is $1,600 per person.

What Tatsiana Anoshka spent in one evening could feed an average Belarusian’s family for almost five months. Where did an inconspicuous Belarusian businesswoman get such money?

SHEIMAN’S FINANCIER

Tatsiana Anoshka is an important person in the Alexvit Group. What is this business holding known for? We found at least five active companies that are part of the Alexvit Group. They deal in customs clearance, and logistics, help circumvent sanctions and are involved in parallel imports.

The first is the company of the same name, OOO Alexvit Ltd – a large logistics company with a turnover in the hundreds of millions of Belarusian roubles. It operates various shady schemes to circumvent sanctions, re-exports and parallel imports.

Scheme one: The firm assists clients in circumventing sanctions through Turkey, as stated on their website. The service is called “Consolidated cargo: Europe – Turkey – Russia”.

CONSOLIDATED CARGO SERVICE: EUROPE – TURKEY – RUSSIA
SERVIS «SBORNYE GRUZY»

Scheme two provides customs clearance services for car parts arriving from the EU, USA, South-East and East Asia, with subsequent sale in the Russian Federation. Essentially, the company is involved in evading sanctions and “parallel importing”. For example, the US and Japan imposed sanctions on supplying certain car parts to Russia in 2023.

Since 2022, Alexvit Ltd has also been an active purchaser of ExxonMobil’s motor and transmission oils for cars. They are also in short supply in Russia, for example.

Scheme three involves the re-export of flowers. The Buro’s source from the flower business said that in 2022, Alexvit Ltd was actively re-exporting flowers to Russia through the Great Stone Industrial Park. Just to recap, the scheme is legal in Belarus and is based on underpaying value-added tax to the public purse to make superprofits for selected companies.

The company has a history of supplying counterfeit products to Russia, as reported by the Russian regulator Rosselkhoznadzor. In 2023, the company imported fish of unknown origin – allegedly, from Finland – which it processed at the Stolichny fish canning plant before taking it to Russia.

Previously, Tatsiana Anoshka was employed by the company Globalcustom, which was found to have been engaged in the illicit supply of clothing and sanctioned products to Russia. Belarusian journalists also revealed that Globalcustom was part of a questionable scheme involving the re-export of flowers. For example, in 2019, $370 million was spent on flower imports, while only $85 million came from their exports. About $300 million was lost on the way from Belarus to Russia.

Globalcustom is linked to Aleksandr Lukashenko’s right-hand man, his old associate Viktor Sheiman. Despite the company ceasing operations in 2020, its legacy continues to be felt. Tatsiana Anoshka plays a significant role in this business, as does her husband, Siarhei Anoshka. The latter has a special relationship with Viktor Sheiman. But first things first.

GENERAL'S PAGE

Siarhei Anoshka began his career in the companies owned by businessman Alexander Muraviev, a common associate of Sheiman. Between 2003 and 2007, Siarhei was employed by ZAO TD Yelizovo, ZAO Steklozavod Yelizovo and IOOO Yelipak. From 2007 to 2009, he held management positions at Motovelo. In his recent interview, Muraviev also mentions him as a director:

“...He went on to say that Motovelo was meant to use the money they received to buy machines. I told him right in the courtroom: ‘Anoshka, so why didn’t you buy the machines? You’re the one in charge, why didn’t you buy them?’ <…> He says: ‘Well, there’s a financial model and obligations I had to fulfil’. ‘You don’t have to fulfil your obligations, you just have to buy the machines!’ You know what he said? He said: “Alexander, but if I buy the machines and the creditors pull a fast one on us, I will have power cut off in workshops and won’t be able to pay the wages. People will stop working. Why the hell do I need the machines then?”

In 2009, Siarhei Anoshka left Motovelo and became one of Viktor Sheiman’s confidants.

Previously, investigative journalists have reported on how Muraviev’s former employees, including Siarhei Anoshka, have joined Viktor Sheiman’s current top management team. Buro has consulted with a source who is well-versed in the matter regarding Siarhei Anoshka:

“I think the key question here is how the whole company came under Muraviev’s command and who they had to let go to make that happen. In Belarus, if a person runs a business with a certain team of executives and then their business is taken away from them and the whole team ends up in another structure, this means that at the time when their business was going on, they enjoyed the support of the structure that later adopted the affected managers. He [Siarhei Anoshka] was under [Sheiman’s] umbrella even before he joined Muraviev’s stable. I’m sure we’ve all heard stories about Belarusian oligarchs accidentally putting together teams of random people who’ve done well in business for them. Then the business would start to lose its way, but the managers wouldn't be abandoned – they would be adopted by other businesses. It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll find a case where the management of a private enterprise has been completely transferred to a state-owned company”.

Siarhei Anoshka began to build and strengthen his position under Sheiman’s patronage.

You can see, in 2009 he joined Avangard Gruzotrans, a company owned by his relative. This company is linked by the common contact email to the well-known Sheiman’s group of companies, Globalcustom.

However, Anoshka did not stay with the company for long. In August 2010, he began accompanying Viktor Sheiman on trips abroad. For example, here is a photo from Côte d’Ivoire on Siarhei’s Odnoklassniki page.

SERGEJ ONOSHKO V KOT-D'IVUARE

According to CyberPartisans, Anoshka was listed as an adviser in Lukashenko’s Executive Office at the time.

In 2013, Viktor Sheiman became head of Lukashenko’s Property Management Department. And in the same year, Siarhei Anoshka followed him to the agency.

“Siarhei Anoshka, in general, was working in the system of the Property Management Department for more than a year and was engaged in several trading deals including those related to Ukraine. He was introduced to me as someone who knows who to talk to in Ukraine”, the source told us.

Siarhei managed Belovezhskie Delikatesy, a company engaged in the production of various meat products, from 2015 to 2017. In 2016, he was a witness in a court case against the Yaprintsevs as a director of that company. It turns out that it was Siarhei Anoshka who advised Kazbek Yaprintsev and his business partner Aleksandr Arabyan on some Ukrainian acquaintances who were doing business in the oil products sector. For failing to comply with the terms of these transactions, the Yaprintsevs, father and son, and their business partner were charged with fraud. The amount of damage was estimated at 30 million dollars.

In 2015, there was another incident involving Siarhei Anoshka. He was prosecuted for unlawful purchase and possession of ammunition. In Belarus, you can get up to seven years in prison for this, but Siarhei seems to have got off lightly. Despite the criminal proceedings, he continued to travel abroad. Likely, the case was never brought to court.

Siarhei Anoshka stopped working at Belovezhskie Delikatesy in 2017. Under his leadership, the company was “insolvent” and he left it in debt.

“When it comes to the Property Management Department, successful businesses there have always been built on things like, ‘Oh, wow, sugar. Here it costs 1 rouble, but in Russia, you can sell it for 5. We can take it over, that’s what we need’. The mechanism, with a few tweaks here and there, can be found in many places. It involves making money from monopoly rent extraction or smuggling. All of Lukashenko and Co.’s businesses are built on this: either they were allocated two metres of the national border for import, or they got some resource, or both. It’s amazing how much money people are making on this with margins you wouldn’t dream of as a regular businessman. When a company goes bankrupt, it means that some of the elements that made it successful are missing. I think it’s disrespectful to yourself to work with a margin of less than 50%. When something changes, this beef is no longer needed”, the source told Buro

After leaving Belovezhskie Delikatesy, Anoshka was off the business radar for a while. In March 2021, he returned as a co-owner and director of OOO Upstream, along with another trusted associate of Viktor Sheiman, Anton Novik.

At Upstream, Siarhei Anoshka replaced Yulia Bryhadnaya. She was the sister of Viktor Sheiman’s second wife. The company traded in refined petroleum products and fine chemicals. Its former director, Pavel Lantasau, wrote on Linkedin that “at the height of its development, the company was one of the largest exporters in Minsk” and yet it “maintained its non-publicity and law-abidingness”. But in February 2023, the company went bankrupt and started to liquidate.

Investigations by BelPol have revealed that on the same day that Siarhei Anoshka became a co-owner of Upstream (11 March 2021), he also established another company in Minsk, ZAO Vector Capital Group. He did it together with Sheiman’s deputy, Andrei Svirydau, who had been sacked the day before, and the former first deputy of the Property Management Department, Mikalai Selivanau.

BelPol concluded that this company was set up under the guise of a private structure for the benefit of Lukashenko’s interests to circumvent EU sanctions.

In August 2021, Siarhei Anoshka became the managing director of Vector Energy Innovation FZCO, earning $11,000 monthly, according to BelPol. The company was involved in a scheme to seize and transfer Belarus-owned land in Sochi to a private company for development. The BelPol team values the deal at half a billion dollars. According to the investigation, Complex-Invest will build the Krasnaya Polyana residential complex in Sochi, which will include three luxury villas of more than 300 sq m each, a hotel, a chain of restaurants and a 1002 sq m master chalet.

It turns out that Siarhei Anoshka is not the last person in Sheiman’s inner circle. They flew to Africa together, Anoshka owned Sheiman’s relative’s company, and now, according to BelPol, he is carrying on his patron’s business – running various shady schemes.

But let’s get back to his wife, who plays an equally important role in Viktor Sheiman’s businesses. Tatsiana Anoshka’s professional biography contains many interesting facts.

MIGHT MAKES RIGHT

Like her husband, Tatsiana Anoshka, née Hryshuk, began her career in Alexander Muraviev’s companies. Just one year after graduating, Tatsiana joined the ATEC group of companies as Head of Tax and Financial Consulting. In 2005, Tatsiana left to join Oriflame. She worked there as CFO until 2012.

In July 2011, by the time her husband Siarhei Anoshka had already earned the trust of Viktor Sheiman, Tatsiana was appointed financial director of BelferumGroup. It is not a simple company, but one with exclusive business rights granted by Lukashenko’s decree. Along with state-owned enterprises, it was allowed to collect, harvest, process, and supply scrap metal and waste ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

At the time of its establishment and until 2016, Belferumgroup was owned by LUXBERG LLP, a British company, and TOO Scholz Utilizator AG, a Ukrainian company.

At various points in time, LUXBERG LLP has been owned by several companies, including FORMOND INC., PRIMECROSS INC., IRELAND & OVERSEAS ACQUISITIONS LTD. and MILLTOWN CORPORATE SERVICES LTD.

These four companies are part of the informal network of International Overseas Services (IOS) providers, along with several other firms. The Irish Times published an investigation into the network as part of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) FinCEN project.

ENG_2

ICIJ examined reports from the U.S. Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and found a total of 646 English and Scottish companies with ties to IOS. Promsberbank, a Russian bank linked to Igor Putin, a cousin of Vladimir Putin, was served by two of the companies in the network. The companies in the network were also suspected of being complicit in money laundering through Estonian banks.

ENG_3

Milltown Corporate Services Ltd. is allegedly involved in laundering money belonging to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The network is also linked to the so-called Magnitsky case and the Azerbaijani "mega laundry," according to Estonian OCCRP partner Postimees.

As stated on her LinkedIn profile, Tatsiana Anoshka was engaged by BelferumGroup to provide consulting services to the company’s owner, guiding them from the initial business idea stage to a turnover of over 100 million dollars. The company had branches in Russia, Ukraine and Germany. Anoshka worked there until 2016. In addition to Tatsiana Anoshka, BelferumGroup employed other former Motovelo staff members including Andrei Feaktsistau and Aliaksandr Nikalaichanka, as well as Tatsiana Anoshka’s brother, Yury Hryshuk. Almost all of them, along with Anoshka, later went to work for the familiar Globalcustom.

BelferumGroup was declared bankrupt in 2018. As indicated in the court documents, the company is in arrears to its creditors by a sum exceeding one million dollars (nearly two million Belarusian roubles). The primary obligation is to the Russian company Voronezhvtorsplav.

In addition to dubious links to an international money-laundering network, the Investigative Committee also suspected that the BelferumGroup had been liquidated in an unscrupulous manner.

Suspicions about the company arose in 2018 during a criminal investigation into Eastvilletrade’s accounts payable evasion. According to a court document received from the Ukrainian court, the Belarusian investigator in charge of the case concluded based on documents and testimonies that between 2014 and 2017, “with the complicity of officials and employees of ZAO Tsentr Likvidatsii Predpriyatiy (Centre for the Liquidation of Enterprises) controlled by them, several crimes and other illegal actions were committed in connection with the seizure of property and deliberate bankruptcy of economic entities, evasion of repayment of accounts payable”.

BelferumGroup, which was also managed by ZAO Tsentr Likvidatsii Predpriyatiy during the liquidation, also came under suspicion. The same company was involved in liquidating Globalcustom Management, which was affiliated with Sheiman. The criminal case against Eastvilletrade was brought to court and then dismissed because the statute of limitations had expired. Tsentr Likvidatsii Predpriyatiy is in operation to this day.

Criminal proceedings have not spared the Ukrainian company, co-owner of BelferumGroup. In 2018, Scholz Utilizator AG was named in a criminal case against Viktor Yanukovych, a number of his cabinet ministers, and employees of the Tax Service of Ukraine for creating a criminal organization of “conversion and transit centres” under the control of tax officials. The companies in question have been found to have undercharged taxes to the state budget. Ukrainian law enforcement has estimated the damage to the state from this network to be in excess of 100 billion hryvnias.

In 2023, Scholz Utilizator AG was involved in another significant criminal case involving a network of companies that embezzled public funds, evaded taxes, and engaged in money laundering through fictitious transactions using straw companies. The funds obtained through these schemes were transferred to foreign accounts under the control of Russian and Belarusian citizens, with the use of fictitious import contracts.

FAMILY CAPITAL EARNED THROUGH SMUGGLING

In 2016, Tatsiana Anoshka was accepted into the family business of Viktor Sheiman, Globalcustom. She combined her work there with her position as Vice Chairman of the Board of Alexvit Group. In addition to the aforementioned Alexvit Ltd, this octopus includes GBK-Shelkovyi Put, Avangard Gruzotrans, Alexvit, and Filigroup. Let us tell you more about them.

ENG_4

Tatsiana Anoshka herself now heads the GBK-Shelkovyi Put company. It wasn’t all that long ago that we were telling our readers about them. It was registered in 2020, and the following year it was accepted in the Minsk Free Trade Zone. The company proved to be very profitable, paying 33.5 million Belarusian roubles in dividends to shareholders over the last two years. The company is a logistics hub whose main purpose is to export meat products and by-products to China and Southeast Asian countries. For example, the company buys chicken feet in Uzbekistan and then resells them to other countries.

Another company is Avangard Gruzotrans, which is owned by Yury Hryshuk, Tatsiana’s brother. The company is now managed by Valiantsina Hryb, a former Globalcustom employee. Furthermore, Valiantsina oversees the operations and logistics department at Alexvit Ltd, a role she fulfils in addition to her responsibilities at Avangard Gruzotrans. Avangard Gruzotrans has recently refocused its operations to the eastern market, with a particular emphasis on container transportation of meat and by-products to Asia.

In 2020, Avangard Gruzotrans, still owned and managed by Tatsiana Anoshka’s brother, “purchased” Shampaneria, a bar on Zybitskaya Street, from Viktor Sheiman’s daughter, Volha Sheiman, and her business partner, Volha Khachatryan. Subsequently, the business was “resold” to a certain Mikita Andrukovich.

Alexvit and Filigroup are in the apparel supply business and operate a chain of SASCH clothing stores.

In essence, the Globalcustom “network” has been superseded by the Alexvit “group of companies”, which now performs the same functions. The same managers and trustees of Viktor Sheiman continue to be involved. The old exposed legal entities were liquidated. They were replaced by previously inoperative companies or even new ones.

The total revenue of Alexvit “group of companies” in 2023 amounted to about one billion Belarusian roubles.

So, the Anoshka family serves the interests of companies associated with Viktor Sheiman. These companies have been involved in scandals and even criminal cases. They were suspected of underpayment of taxes to the Belarusian state budget, smuggling, sanctions evasion, and parallel imports. The Anoshka couple made a fortune participating in the activities of these companies. Let us now look at the expenditure of this considerable sum of money and see where the funds that were intended for the Belarusian budget have been directed.

Celebrating New Year’s Eve at Dubai’s Atlantis, The Palm Hotel to the sounds of Kylie Minogue is just a drop in the bucket. By the way, the Anoshka family has already taken part in the event in this luxurious hotel in 2016. On the eve of the new year 2017, Tatsiana published a photo of the gala dinner menu of Atlantis, The Palm with the caption “On our way!” on her Facebook page.

CyberPartisans provided us with the information that Tatsiana and Siarhei Anoshkas left Belarus on December 28, 2016, and returned from vacation on January 4, 2017. A photograph posted on Tatsiana Anoshka’s Facebook page shows them leaving for vacation with their three sons from the business lounge of Minsk Airport.

And that’s not their only trip to Dubai.

HEAVENLY DELIGHT

After analysing photos and geotags in the social media of Anoshka’s family, we found that the family members of our subjects were in Dubai at least four more times: in January 2024, April 2023, February 2022, and March 2021. Let’s focus on their spring break in 2021 and do the math on how much the Anoshka couple might have spent at the resort.

On 30 March 2021, Tatsiana Anoshka posted a photo of the beach and the geolocation of Atlantis, The Palm on her Instagram.

TATYANA ONOSHKO NA OTDYHE V ATLANTIS THE PALM V DUBAE (MART 2021 GODA)

The CyberPartisans provided us with information proving that Tatsiana Anoshka and her husband Siarhei were out of their home country on the aforementioned date. They left Belarus on 26 March 2021 and returned to the country on 7 April. Assuming that the couple spent all 13 days and 12 nights at Atlantis, The Palm, the economy-class room (with an ocean view), breakfast included, could have cost the Anoshka couple €8,000. This equates to approximately €650 per night.

Buro is unable to confirm whether Siarhei and Tatsiana vacationed alone or with their sons. If the Anoshka family were to stay at Atlantis, The Palm as a family, the cost of the cheapest family room with breakfast for five people for 12 nights would be approximately €20,000. The most expensive room at this hotel is a suite for six, with a price tag of €161,000 for 12 nights.

But the sums spent on gala dinners with world stars and hotels in Dubai are a drop in the bucket compared to what the Anoshka family could spend in another corner of paradise – right on the equator line.

Let’s move from the Gulf Coast to an even more enchanting place. The Maldives, where the Indian Ocean meets the Arabian Sea. Unlike Dubai, you won’t find trendy boutiques and raucous parties here. The Maldives is rightly synonymous with the word “exclusive”. Holidaying in this paradise is very expensive and not for everyone to afford.

Back to Tatsiana Anoshka’s Instagram. She posted a series of geotagged photos – from Baa Atoll, Maldives – in April 2020. Tatsiana added in the caption to the photos that now she and her family are back home and isolated, she is happy to have been able to visit the “paradise on Earth” before the lockdown.

We got the flight database from CyberPartisans, and it showed that the Anoshka family left Belarus on 28 December 2019, just before the pandemic, and came back to Minsk on 7 January 2020. Based on Tatsiana’s reel, we can be sure that they were in the Maldives on those dates. The family spent 11 days and 10 nights at the luxury resort.

Tatsiana didn’t mention a specific hotel in her geolocation, but based on the photos, Buro identified that the Anoshka couple and their kids spent their days at the resort hotel Vakkaru Maldives. How much did all this luxury cost?

The trip was attended by a minimum of five people, including Tatsiana herself, her husband Siarhei, and their three children. The older twin sons Illia and Ihar were 12 years old at the time, so according to hotel rules, they are charged as adults, while son Marat was 7 and was processed as a child. Unfortunately, we are unable to verify the price established in 2020. Therefore, we have set all parameters for a comparable period, in the event that the price depends on the season, from 28 December 2024 to 7 January 2025.

The hotel’s website offers the most cost-effective option according to the given parameters: a six-bedroom, two-bathroom residence measuring 500 sq m with a private pool of 38 sq m and direct access to the beach. The cost of the villa is $11,000 per night, or $110,000 for 10 nights, inclusive of breakfast.

However, this is by no means all costs.

The hotel is only accessible by seaplane. Round-trip transfers can be booked at the resort for an additional charge. The cost is $950 per adult and $475 per child. The transfer fee is $4,275.

Judging by the video on Tatsiana’s Instagram, they welcomed the new year, 2020, at a beach party, an annual event organised by the hotel. The gala dinner – similar to the one the Anoshkas attended in Dubai – precedes a concert and fireworks show. When we were booking a villa with Vakkaru Maldives, we were told that dinner was not included in the price and would be charged separately: $1,276 per adult and $638 per child – a further $5,742 for the New Year’s Eve party.

Anoshka went on to enjoy another of the resort’s paid options – cruising on a yacht.

MORSKAYA PROGULKA SEMI ONOSHKO NA MALDIVAH

The Anoshka family’s yacht cruise in the Maldives. Source: Tatsiana Anoshka’s Instagram account

The hotel also provides this service for an additional fee. Private charters for a 2-hour cruise start at $3,000. You pay $4,500 for 4 hours and $6,000 for 8 hours. Lunch on board the yacht is charged separately. The hotel adds a 10% service charge and 16% VAT to the final price.

We don’t know how long the Anoshkas were on the boat or if they took any breaks for meals. Therefore, Buro took the liberty of including only the minimum cost of a 2-hour yacht rental in the bill. With all taxes and fees, this figures up to $3780 – just in case the Anoshkas for once decided to save money on something.

Well, and of course, let’s not forget the food. After all, for $110,000 they only serve breakfast to their guests. There are 7 restaurants on site. We took the average prices from Booking.com. The hotel offers lunch at $106 per person and dinner at $172 per person. Let’s assume that the Anoshka family had lunch and dinner all together for the entire 10 days of their stay. That adds up to another $13,900 for five to eat and drink for 11 days.

We'd like to emphasise that we don't know the hotel price range in 2019-2020, but we can assume that at such high-end resorts, the holiday checks could be just as impressive.

Nor do we know which villa the Anoshkas lived in. As an example, we have chosen the most "economy-class" accommodation on the site, based on the number of people and their ages at the time. We admit that the Anoshka family might have preferred a more luxurious villa.

It's also worth noting that in 2024 the hotel is offering a 35 per cent discount on accommodation and dinner for bookings of six nights or more, but there's no information on whether a similar discount was offered in 2019-2020 and whether the Anoshka family took advantage of it.

So, at a minimum, the Anoshka family could squander just over $137,000 in 10 days in the Maldives! It would take an ordinary Belarusian 17 years just to earn that kind of money.

MY DIAMOND

The Anoshka family live large, spending money not only abroad but also in Belarus. Studying Tatsiana’s Instagram profile, we discovered that our subject is not thrifty when it comes to her needs and buys jewellery on an industrial scale.

Tatsiana Anoshka is a fan of the French jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels. For instance, this bracelet made of malachite and 18-carat yellow gold costs $4,850.

Another photograph shows a $7,700 Magic Alhambra double ring from the same collection and a $7,000 chain pendant.

Tatiana has a very similar mother-of-pearl collar. It’s cheaper, just $2,750.

Another photo shows a watch from the same jewellery house on her wrist. The European version of the Van Cleef & Arpels website does not currently offer the mother-of-pearl accessory. However, the same item can be purchased in Saudi Arabia for more than 50,000 Saudi riyals. If converted to US dollars, the value of these items is at least $13,500.

Tatsiana also has 18-karat gold Lucky Alhambra butterfly earrings with mother-of-pearl and tiger’s eye in her collection. These are available for purchase for $7,150.

Anoshka’s gold rush doesn’t stop here. Our subject’s collection also boasts jewellery from another famous brand – the Italian fashion house Bulgari, which is renowned for creating luxury goods.

For instance, this is Tatsiana Anoshka boasting about the hydrangeas she cultivates in her garden in Senitsa. The flowers are aesthetically pleasing, but in our opinion, they are not as impressive as the ring and bracelet, which are enhanced by the glow of 18ct rose gold combined with mother-of-pearl and onyx in the flashlight. In total, we see Anoshka wearing $7,250 worth of jewellery – a $4,350 bracelet and a $2,900 ring.

Even in the Maldives, far from civilisation, Tatsiana wears an 18-carat rose gold Bulgari pendant around her neck. The pendant itself has a carnelian mineral and diamond inlay. This piece of jewellery sells for $4,600 on the official website.

And here is perhaps the crowning glory of Tatsiana’s jewellery collection – a gold snake necklace set with diamonds. The subject of our investigation has a piece of jewellery worth a one-room flat in Minsk hanging around her neck. After all, it costs $56,000!

Anoshka also invests in handbags from luxury brands, in addition to jewellery. For the musical in which her youngest son, Marat, starred, Tatsiana chose a Christian Dior Mini Lady handbag. On the official website, you can get one for €5,050.

For a stroll around Abu Dhabi, she opted for a “simpler” accessory – a small leather Kate handbag by Parisian luxury brand Saint Laurent. It could cost Tatsiana Anoshka as much as €1,550.

For a beach vacation at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai, our subject preferred a very, by her standards, budget option. A plastic shopper from Dolce & Gabbana. To carry a bottle of sunscreen with glamour, Tatsiana could spend $683.

No less impressive are the sums spent on clothes by the Anoshka couple. De-luxe class, naturally.

In this picture, Tatsiana visited an Orthodox church and dutifully covered her head with the equivalent of two average Belarusian salaries. More specifically, a €1,210 Christian Dior scarf.

Here’s the entire Anoshka family. Tatsiana wears a Dolce & Gabbana cotton poplin dress from the Spring 2022 Sunrise capsule collection. You won’t be able to buy this outfit on the brand’s website or other online stores. However, we managed to find it on sale in Saudi Arabia. The original price without rebate is €2,200.

The Anoshkas don’t stint on their children either. Marat, the Anoshkas’ youngest son, wears a fashionable T-shirt, also by Dolce & Gabbana. Such a purchase could cost almost $430. Illia is wearing a T-shirt by the premium French brand Louis Vuitton. The same one in different colours costs €820 on the official website.

We found Illia Anoshka wearing some more expensive branded clothes. For example, the boy will sit at his school desk wearing a $880 sweatshirt by Parisian fashion house Maison Margiela.

When he goes out with his friends, Anoshka’s son, like all kids, dresses more simply – in the eyes of his family – in a sweatshirt by French fashion house Givenchy. Don’t be fooled, the logo hasn’t come off with a lot of washing – it was designed that way. At a price of €580.

The parents do not spare any money for another son, Ihar, either. We found this photo on the boy’s Instagram. Ihar’s formal suit is finished off with a gold buckle belt from Dolce & Gabbana, costing $515.

In July 2023, Tatsiana shared a photo from her youngest son Marat’s 11th birthday.

The celebrations took place at the Anoshka family seat in the Belarusian town of Senitsa. The birthday boy was dressed to impress in a cotton shirt from Burberry, the British brand. It was from their 2023 summer collection. The official website is selling them for $300. Twin Illia Anoshka wears a Dior Homme silk shirt by premium French brand Christian Dior. The price tag is just under $1,700. Twin Ihar Anoshka wears a cotton shirt by the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. It can be bought for just under €800.

In addition, famous TikTok vlogger Artur Babich was invited to Anoshka’s 11th birthday party.

Posing as potential clients, we contacted the agency that organises appearances by Russian showbiz stars and asked how much it would cost to have Artur Babich congratulate a child at a party in Minsk. The company said that the vlogger fee will be $35,000, with another $8,000 in rider expenses. This meant that the Anoshka family had to pay a minimum of $43,000 for the star guest.

For Marat’s ninth birthday, his loving parents also booked their son’s idol – Belarusian-born blogger, singer and TV presenter Vlad Kobyakov – to come to Senitsa.

Buro, posing as a potential client, learned from Kobyakov’s manager that the artist’s appearance at a children’s party as host and musical performer would cost about $8,000 per hour.

Tatsiana and Siarhei Anoshka even have a gold-plated porcelain duck from the Italian brand Ahura on their Easter table.

These figurines are made to order in a factory in Italy. We contacted the sales department by email and the manufacturer provided us with the following information: the gold plating can be replaced with platinum plating, and the necklace and duck’s eyes are encrusted with Swarovski rhinestones. For just €226 (retail price) and an additional €40 for delivery to Belarus, you can be the proud owner of a gold-plated duck. We were also promised a 30% discount on our first order.

In 2016, Tatiana Anoshka owned a red SUV – a 2016 BMW X6 – to complement the country villa in Senitsa, which houses the gold-plated duck. Our subject was pretty proud of this gift on her Facebook page. She was feeling pretty down about her black streak, which included food poisoning, burying her last favourite grandmother and a buddy who passed away unexpectedly – all in the run-up to her birthday. Tatsiana said that the moral right didn’t allow her to celebrate her own birthday. But she had no problem enjoying the new car!

It cost Siarhei Anoshka about $70,000 in 2016. The SUV was accompanied by a number plate, probably specially ordered for Tatsiana – 1010 OT-5. 1010 coincides with our subject’s date of birth, 10 October, while OT appears to stand for Onoshko Tatiana [her name in Russian].

In total, we counted more than $130,000 worth of clothing and accessories owned by the Anoshka family, of which jewellery accounted for nearly $115,000. In addition, at least $50,000 was spent on fees and riders for celebrity guests at family reunions, and another at least $145,000 was spent on two holidays: in Dubai and the Maldives. And this is only the lower limit. We only included what Tatiana Anoshka posted on Instagram and what we could estimate without taking into account the cost of airfare and everyday vacation spending. Even so, that’s still $400,000 spent entertaining, luxuriating and gifting each other. The real scale of spending on tangible branded goods, holidays and property can be many times greater.

The Anoshka family are mid-level managers in Viktor Sheiman’s “stable”, but they earn and spend as much as the average Belarusian could only dream of. Anoshka’s fabulous money from shady deals, sanctions evasion and smuggling is spent on diamond jewellery, branded clothes, business class flights, luxury resorts, champagne and caviar dinners and celebrity fees.

And while the average salary in Belarus is around $600 a month, the managers of companies associated with Sheiman spend that much just on a shirt.

Siarhei Anoshka refused to talk to us.

“It’s not a good time for me to talk” the businessman said and hung up.

Tatsiana Anoshka did not return our calls.
