How much does Dmitry Lukashenko’s hockey club spend?

Buro obtained income and expenditure reports for Shchit, the amateur hockey team that Dmitry Lukashenko plays for. We found out where the club’s funding comes from and how much is spent on its activities.

In 2022, the accounts of the public association Lubitelski Khokkeiny Klub Shchit held 746,000 Belarusian rubles (€271,000). In 2023, this figure was 586,000 Belarusian rubles (€180,500). In 2024, the amount stood at 433,500 Belarusian rubles (€123,500). In 2025, the figure was 514,000 Belarusian rubles, equivalent to 148,600 euros.

 

We calculated that, in just four years, Dmitry Lukashenko’s amateur team had amassed nearly 2.3 million Belarusian rubles on its balance sheet – equivalent to just under 724,000 euros.

 

So where does this money come from? The documents describe these funds as “receipts in the form of gratuitous (sponsorship) assistance.” The identities of the patrons donating such exorbitant sums to amateur hockey are unknown.

 

The documentation also provided insight into how Shchit allocates its financial resources. Most of the expenses go towards training and practice activities, preparing teams for international hockey tournaments and purchasing equipment and gear.

 

A smaller portion of the funds goes towards covering organisational and operational expenses, such as public awareness campaigns, banking services and travel costs. The club itself also provides grant-based sponsorship to certain parties, offering 71,400 Belarusian rubles over two years.

 

Additionally, Shchit pays the salaries of two employees, including income tax and Social Insurance Fund contributions.

 

 

One of them is Yauheni Kukushkin. We recently reported that he was a government official in the 2000s, working as an inspector with the Securities Committee under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus. In 2002, however, he was detained by KGB agents for attempting to sell a state military secret about the activities of the defence contractor Peleng to “Russian businessmen.” Kukushkin was let off with a “suspended sentence” at that time.

 

Thanks to CyberPartisans, we found out that Kukushkin has worked at Shchit since its foundation in 2016. He serves as the club’s acting chairman – in other words, he is essentially the club’s head. Additionally, Kukushkin is listed as a coach working 0.25 FTE, earning a monthly salary of 1,860.6 Belarusian rubles.

 

The other employee is Aliaksandr Zhukavets. He worked as the national field hockey coach for the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus in the early 2010s. From 2018 to 2023, Zhukavets played for Shchit. He is currently listed on the hockey club’s roster as an administrative coach, working 0.25 of a full-time position and earning a modest salary of 278.25 Belarusian rubles.
