Buro Media marks its second anniversary

Hello! Today is the second anniversary of Buro. It is thanks to your support that we have been able to take bold initiatives and publish essential investigations during this time. We are delighted to share our achievements and plans with you today.

The second year of the project’s existence was just as dynamic and productive as the first. During the year, the editorial staff conducted and published 13 major investigations and few dozen shorter investigations and investigative news stories. We’ve also been experimenting with different formats, and now we publish audio investigations as well.

GIJN welcomed us as members in 2025. Buro participated in the large-scale project “Dear Compatriots”, alongside 30 other foreign investigative media outlets. In autumn, two journalists from the editorial team won the Free Word Prize for their investigative work.

We are pleased to report that the project has yielded positive results:

– The subjects of our The Big Repairs investigation fell under British and EU sanctions. This forced them to sell a Polish asset and change their auto parts supplier for the Russian market;

– The Ministry of Taxes and Levies of Belarus took notice of Mikalai Karpiankou’s foundation’s accounting after the release of our October investigation, as follows from the ministry’s response to the Buro;

– Following our investigation in November into the supply of equipment to a Belarusian factory that had bypassed sanctions, Lithuanian customs initiated an examination.

We will continue to inform Belarusians about cases of corruption and individuals who undermine democratic principles by violating the law and human rights. Today, corruption remains one of the main obstacles to justice and the country’s development. By revealing new facts about corrupt practices, we share essential information with society and create conditions for public discussion and open dialogue.
